These glass fishing floats can date back to as early as the 1800s. Norway was the first country to produce and use them while fishing. Christopher Faye is the Norwegian merchant to be credited for this invention. These glass floats were tied to fishing nets and sometimes strung over 50 miles long. Japanese fishermen began to use the glass floats around 1910. Many floats are still found on the waters in the Pacific and some wash up on the local shores for the lucky collectors beach combing! Most found today have originated from Japan. If you love history and you enjoy decorating with nautical treasures we still have 4 left all tied differently. See pictures. Buy them all or choose the rope style you want.
